A High School Student in Huffman Victims for Shooting in College Hills – Alabama News Leader

Birmingham, Ala. Among the victims was 18-year-old Ronald Bennett Jr., a senior at Huffman High School, celebrating Birmingham’s first murder for February.

The Birmingham Police Department reacted to a Shotspotter notice in the College Hills neighborhood of the 600 block on the 8th terrace west shortly after midnight on Saturday. Employees found a catastrophic vehicle in the front yard of a home and Bennett suffering from a firearm on the ground. He was declared dead in place.

Adrienne Pearson, president of the College Hills neighborhood, stressed the importance of parents’ involvement and the community’s accountability to deal with violence affecting Birmingham youth.

“The number one parents should be parents,” she said. “We all have to be held responsible. Where you see a child on the street, give them some encouragement, say,” Hi, how are you doing, to have a great day at school. I know you can achieve excellence. “

Birmingham urban schools have made a statement expressing their condolences.

“We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of Ronald Bennett Jr., a senior at Huffman High School. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends and family of Huffman High,” the statement said.

The Birmingham Police Department believes the shooting was directed and is looking for the neighborhood for all the footage of a security camera that can provide leaders. No arrests were made in connection with Bennett’s death.
