Gates, New York – a graduate of 2017 at Gates Chile High School, Cameron Girwin, was one of two police officers killed in the Virginia Beach on -duty on Saturday.
Cameron Girwin police, 25, and Christopher Reese, 30, were fatally shot as they tried to pull Hyundai’s Blue Sonata with expired plates, Virginia Beach Paul Paul Paul Police at a press conference on Saturday.
When The car failed Stop, the officers pursued him on a cultural sac and approached the vehicle, Naidgate said. The driver, John McCoy, was “immediately argumentative” and initially refused to exit the vehicle at the officers’ requests, Neudigate added.
When McCoy, 42, eventually was drawn up, a struggle between him and the two officers. During the dispute, McCoy claims that he draws Pistol and shot both officers, Naudgita said. McCoy shot both officers a second time, while they lay on the ground, wounded before they left, Nadgiga added.
Later, both officers were declared dead in nearby hospitals, where they were surrounded by their family and friends, the police chief said.
“I’ll be quite honest. We all hurt, ”Naidgiga said. “We have families who have lost a loved one in the prime of their lives and they are completely devastated.”
In the hours after the killing, the police found McCoy’s body in the apartment complex of Virginia Beach.
Police said the suspect was found with a “firearm wound in the head”, which they believe was “self -inflicted”.
Gates Chile’s central school district extended its condolences to the Girwin family.
“Our thoughts are with the Girwin family, his relatives and all who knew him. This loss is felt deep in our school community, especially those who had the privilege of knowing Cameron and his family. His father, Art Girwin, was a long -time bus driver for the area, making this tragedy even more delicate for many in our Spartan community. “
