San Bernardino, California (KABC) – Now that the winter storm passed, the skiers and snowboarders have been eager to head to the mountains of San Bernardino to check a few inches of fresh snow.
The freezing temperatures have turned road sails into ice sheets overnight, resulting in the sliding of some vehicles from the roadway in Big Bear.
While drivers who make the way up the 330 highway had to stop circulating in order not to rotate.
“It was quite slippery, quite icy, but we also came here. It was quite smooth after that,” said Gil Reyes of Chino.
The Weekend Storm laid the San Bernardino Mountains with fresh dust, turning the dried landscape into a winter country of wonders and attracting crowds to local ski resorts.
For three students from South Africa, this was not just another day in the snow; It was their first attempt in the California winter.
“The conditions just turned out to be nice and we planned everything together. We were able to get some outfit from several friends, so we decided we would come and make a ski trip,” said Nick Fiamingo of Cape Town, South Africa.
For Haley Humble and her boyfriend Gil Reyes, the day was a chance to escape from the dry fire conditions that have hit Southern California for months.
Snow Valley received six to ten inches of fresh snow during the storm, which made the perfect snowboard conditions.
“I am happy that the rain is here because like the last few days we have had fires. It is so sad for families and everyone else,” Humbell said.
Snow brings more than entertainment for visitors; This is also a symbol of such a necessary relief. California has observed almost no rain since May, with the dry winds of Santa Anna nourishing devastating fires throughout the region.
With mountains covered with brilliant white, many hope this is the long -awaited start to winter.
“We came here at the end of December and there was no snow. So it’s nice to have some now,” Sam Waskov of Redondo Beach said.
If you are planning to make a trip on the mountain, be sure to check the road conditions before you go and wear chains at any time.
