Lubbock, Texas (KCBD) – Tuesday morning an airplane full of Lubbockites, flies to Austin to present Hub City on the state stage. Wednesday celebrates Lubbock’s day in the State Capitol, a chance to emphasize the community and put a spotlight on issues that are most important to Western Texas.

While Wednesday will take place in the celebration of Lubbok by reading the proclamations of the floors of the House and the Senate, the work began on Tuesday with several meetings. County Judge Curtis Parish, Mayor Mark McBrher, several commissioners and members of the City Council met with Lubbock state -owned Carl Teper, Senator Charles Perry and President Dustin Burrose.

Parish says that one of the big things that legislators can do for Lubbock is to make sure Texas Tech is fully funded.

“Because, with the growth of Texas Tech, Lubbock prosper. And I think there are several bills, several potential bills and legislation on which legislators can work that will make our work easier in Lubbock a little easier, “he said.

Parish says the delegation is also concerned about the property tax reform and guarantees that these bills help the residents of Lubbock County instead of injuring them. There are also some election bills that he specifically pays attention to. The delegation also talks to Senator Perry about its main priority of water.

“I know that in the end, the Senator will make a change in the constitution, considering some consequences for water for water. And, of course, water is always vital to us in Western Texas, “he said. “This is life force and so, he realizes that the Lubbock delegation understands this. And we are in standby mode to make sure that Lubbock and West Texas, our water supply remains stable and long -term. “

Judge Parish says the speaker Burrose, who is from Lubbock, opens many doors to the area. For legislators, he says that the real work begins after March 15, when the deadlines for the submission end, and both chambers begin to listen to bills and work on the committee.
