The main crash on the US highway 395 north of Renault took the lives of three people early Thursday morning, according to the sheriff of Lasen County.
The incident happened around 5:40 on January 30, south of the Bass Hill depot. According to police, 46-year-old Kelly Ann Erwin of Susanville was driving a gray Dodge Durango south when he tried to cross a semi-trailer. While maneuvering around the truck, Erwin was confronted with a head with a white 4-white Toyota, run by Raymond Edward White, 67 years old, by Janesville. Both drivers were killed in the crash.
Witness Stephen Ray Brestolin, 52 -year -old from Susanville, stopped his car on the west to help. It is tragic that Brestolin was struck and killed by a vehicle to the north while providing assistance. The driver of this vehicle stopped, called 911, and stayed at the scene for emergency staff.
The California Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
