Baton Rouge – Firefighters saved a blind resident from a home that was full of smoke after a small fire from Monday night, reigning on Tuesday morning.
The Batton Rouge Fire Service was called to the home of East Polk Street shortly before 10:30 Tuesday. A strong smoke came from home, and a neighbor said that the homeowner was blind and had not yet come out.
Firefighters managed to enter the home and save the resident who was not wounded.
The fire was contained in the kitchen and ceiling, but the rest of the home was damaged by smoke.
The resident told investigators of fire that there was a small fire in the kitchen on Monday night, that they had managed to extinguish and that there was a smoke smell at night, which they thought was residual from the small fire. Investigators believe the small fire reigned behind the stove.
The Red Cross was called to help the homeowner.
