Winston-Malham, NC- A 16-year-old youth has been faced with the police in high-speed pursuit, ending with a fiery crash. According to officers at the Winston-Sale Police Department.
Police said lately on Saturday evening, officers from the Band Department and the firearm reduction department were in the area of 30th street and Avenue North Patterson when they heard several shots and saw a vehicle that moves away at high speed from the area.
Police said they tried to initiate a traffic stop for the Shattalon Drive and University Parkway vehicle, but the vehicle failed to succumb. The suspicious vehicle, driven by 16-year-old Axel Vasquez, then collided with two police cars and headed for a driver.
A pursuit of vehicles traveling from the north side of Winston-Salem to the eastern part of the city was started. The pursuit ended when police said Vasquez had lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a telephone at North Liberty Street on East 28th Street. The vehicle ignited when strokes in the telephone. Vasquez then fled, but was detained immediately.
Police said they had removed a minor passenger from the car on the spot and provided medical assistance for serious injuries. They were taken to a local medical facility, but according to medical staff there is no danger to life. The names of the minors are not reported as they are charged with this investigation.
Police said Vasquez was not injured during the incident. He is accused of the following:
- Two charges of attacking a deadly weapon against a civil servant
- Escape
Police said he was accused of being an adult under the Age Act.
Employees said additional fees were expected. A firearm was also discovered during the incident, police said.
Police were unable to find casualties or damaged property in the area of 30th Street and Avenue Patterson.
The Winston-Salem Fire Service responds to North Liberty Street and suppresses the fire of both the suspected vehicle and the telephone.
