Heavy haulage specialists Malin Abram, part of the Malin Group, have announced that their 125th anniversary exhibition will be hosted by the Scottish Maritime Museum (SMM).
The exhibition will run from November 11 to 26.
It will showcase the history of the family firm as well as developments in the maritime industry and the Glasgow region.
The company started as Steamship Strathleven in 1899.
Henry Abram and his family and colleagues built a respected ship shipping company transporting more than 300 vessels around the world.
They diversified into heavy cargo transport in the late 1960s and have since worked on ‘iconic’ projects such as the aircraft carrier Queen Elizabeth and the Type 26 frigates HMS Glasgow and HMS Cardiff.
This year, the firm is celebrating its 125th anniversary by sharing details about its landmark projects and Abrams history.
They aim to show the importance of combining heritage and experience with a desire to develop new, innovative and sustainable solutions.
James Bowie, Managing Director of Malin Abram, said: “We are delighted to host an SMM event celebrating the past 125 years – not only of the Abrams company but of the wider shipbuilding industry.
“Many consider the marine industry a thing of the past, but we are passionate about showcasing the variety of new, innovative projects and the range of job opportunities it offers.
“There is an opportunity to discover some interesting maritime artefacts and get involved in our interactive model of the CD01 barge, loading different types of cargo.
“It’s also great to be back at SMM, who we’ve worked with on various STEM-focused events as part of the Malin Young Engineers initiative.”
Malin Abram hopes the interactive exhibition will encourage attendees to learn more about the industry and potentially get involved.
David Mann, director of the Scottish Maritime Museum, said: “We are thrilled to be hosting the Malin Abram’s 125th anniversary exhibition.
“Heavy transport is an integral but often unsung area of the shipping industry and it is great to offer our visitors this new perspective.
“Everyone will also enjoy learning about more than a century of maritime development and Malin Abram’s exciting ambitions for the future.”
The exhibition will be open from Monday 11 November for two weeks.
