SW WASHINGTON (KPTV) – On the night before Election Day, many candidates are still on the campaign trail – knocking on doors, making phone calls, and in Washington, they’re even collecting ballots.
Among the many contested races in our area, one of the closest races is in Southwest Washington as Joe Kent once again challenges incumbent Marie Glusenkamp Perez.
Kent and his supporters lined Main Street in Battle Ground, waving signs. Kent says his goal is to keep people excited until the last minute of this election.
Kent’s campaign office opened its doors early Monday, posting on social media calls for its supporters to stop by and drop off their ballots so his team can deliver them for them on Election Day.

Collecting ballots is legal in Washington state.
“Quite a few people dropped off ballots at our campaign office,” says Kent. “We had teams of canvassers, I was out in northern Clark County most of the day so people turned in their ballots, we just got three here in the last little sign waving.”
On the other side of that race, incumbent Glusenkamp Perez is taking a different approach.
Instead of collecting ballots, her team of canvassers knocks on doors and helps voters make a plan for how they will cast their own ballot if they haven’t already.

She says it’s important to her that people participate and that their voices are heard.
“We’re just knocking on doors and making phone calls and making sure people are getting their own ballots and that they’re confident that our ballot boxes are safe and secure and that it’s urgent that we show up and make our voices heard,” she said.
To show his confidence in that certainty, Glusenkamp Perez dropped his ballot into the ballot box at Fisher’s Landing last week.
It was a very close race in 2022, and each candidate is hoping that turnout will tilt in their favor.
