Tallahassee man found guilty of attempted murder after shooting paralyzes bystander at Trapican Way gas station – WCTV

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – A Tallahassee man was found guilty of attempted first and second degree murder Friday for a shooting at a convenience store at 2023 Lake Bradford Road, according to court documents from the state’s attorney.

Jonathan Vance is eligible for a minimum sentence of 25 years to life in prison, court documents said.

On the day of the shooting, Vance and a man known as “Peanut” got into a verbal fight at a Trapican Way gas station, when Vance’s court documents say he “tried to brandish his gun but accidentally dropped it on the ground “.

The peon took the gun and refused to return the weapon to Vance, according to the documents. Vance then got into his car to drive his mother home, where he retrieved an AR-style handgun and returned to the store to confront Peanutt about taking his gun, documents said.

Vance “parked near the convenience store and traveled on foot to sneak up on the Peanut,” according to state attorney documents.

He peeked around the corner of the store to stalk the Bean in an alley, and though several other people were in the alley, Vance opened fire. As Peanut fled, a woman was struck and paralyzed by one of six bullets fired by Vance, court documents said.

“She is not expected to regain the ability to walk,” according to the documents.

Vance claims his actions were in self-defense. The jury rejected that claim and found him guilty after deliberating for about 30 minutes, court documents said.
