With plenty of action, tonight’s NHL picks focus on top line players who are in advantageous positions.

Read on to find out why Ross Colton, Connor Garland and Barrett Hayton should get some love on Tuesday, October 22.

Today’s NHL picks and best bets

Bet #1: Ross Colton over 0.5 points

-125 at BetMGM

Hockey is the least responsive market of the big four sports. How did Ross Colton’s over 0.5 points not reach -165? This is madness. Nathan McKinnon is -800 per point. Colton plays all of his shifts with Nate Mack.

The first-line winger and PP1 has many goals in back-to-back games and has seven points in six games. It also shoots a ton with 22 SOG. If Colton’s 0.5+ points are too expensive for you, as some books are as short as -140, add his 2.5+ SOG to make it +186 on DraftKings. It’s not SOG’s best matchup against the Seattle Kraken, but Colorado isn’t winning games and the first line is getting heavy minutes with a negative game script.

This Over-point prop is a buy until -150 or until Colorado gets some wings back in the lineup. Until then, this is a prop I’ll be betting on any day until they adjust the odds. He literally has the best opportunity of any wing in hockey and the books don’t adjust enough.

Bet #2: Connor Garland over 0.5 points

-120 at BET99

Jake DeBrusk was moved from the first power play unit and Connor Garland jumps. He plays all his shifts with Elias Petersson and the double stack of Over 0.5 points pays +184. This is a great matchup for the Vancouver Canucks offense as the Chicago Blackhawks are anything but a defensively strong team with a penalty kill that can punch above their weight after finishing with the #27 PK last year.

Garland’s price is adjusted better than Ross Colton’s in Colorado, but he should see 19+ minutes of ice time and has pointed in all but one of his five games this year. The Blackhawks will also likely use their few defensive resources on the Miller/Boeser line, giving Garland a little more ice to work with and better matchups on the road.

The Pettersson and Garland stack is one of my favorites today, but the Miller/Boeser stack is also in play for anything, even money or better. There’s also a chance Miller misses this game and Garland could have a bigger role. Miller deals with “issues” so it’s hard to read between the lines what the problem is there. My lean is he plays.

Bet #3: Barrett Hayton over 0.5 points

+105 at BetMGM

This is one of the least overlooked suggestions of the books. That’s the same price for Hayton to score a point as he was in Game 1. All he did while centering the top line and PP 1 was score four goals and add two helpers in six games — two of those points came with male advantage.

So what’s the catch? Is the game tough for Utah Hockey Club? No, it isn’t.

The Ottawa Senators have a 3.80 GAA on the year and have allowed 14 goals in their last contests. Linus Ullmark is back tonight, but he also allowed four goals on 26 shots in his last outing. This is a team with defensive issues as Artem Zub is out and Thomas Chabot is struggling to stay healthy again this year.

Getting a first line and PP1 center at anything better than -130 is a buy. I wouldn’t even hate to put Ross Colton 2+ points and Barrett Hayton 2+ points together at +2620 at DraftKings.
