Road rage escalates to killing on Las Vegas freeway, 2 arrested: police – Yahoo! Voices

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Two young men are accused of killing a father who was driving on a freeway near the Las Vegas Strip in what police say was a case of road rage, according to documents obtained by 8 News Now Investigators.

Damarion Bell, 18; and Jasahn Lovette, 23, are accused of killing Darin Algee, 31. On Aug. 8, Algee was shot and killed while driving on Interstate 15 with his girlfriend and their child between Spring Mountain and Flamingo roads, documents said. Algee died of multiple gunshot wounds.

As part of the investigation, police learned that a FedEx employee was driving in the area at the time of the murder. Police obtained video from the truck that showed the shooting was the result of road rage, they said.

The video shows Alji’s car and a white SUV pass each other before the shooting. The vehicle was later determined to be an SUV. Officers then searched for all registered owners of the make and year of the alleged SUV.

Police then located the suspect vehicle, finding it had been stolen in July. Two weeks after the murder, police found the SUV, which was parked at the North Las Vegas Police Department. Surveillance video showed two people parking the car and wiping it down with a towel.

Officers then reviewed more videos linking the incident to Bell and Lovett, they said.

On Oct. 18, police arrested Lovett and a third person, Markle Smith, in a stolen car, police said. Markel, who was driving, crashed the car during the pursuit.

While arresting Lovett, officers were notified of the warrant for his arrest for Algie’s murder, the documents said.

Records show police arrested Bell on Oct. 1, although his arrest was not made public until Lovett was in custody. Bell faces charges including open murder and several counts of attempted murder. He remained in custody without bail as of Tuesday and was scheduled to appear in court on October 24.

Lovett also faces charges including open murder and attempted murder. He remained in custody without bail as of Tuesday and was scheduled to appear in court on October 24.

Smith faces several gun-related charges and is being held on $100,000 bail. He was due back in court on November 5.
