University High lost its District 6-3A opener to Madison Prep on Thursday night. The now third-ranked Class 3A Cubs had their seven regular-season wins snapped by forfeit.
After rumors spread that U-High was under investigation for a possible ineligible player, the LHSAA updated the Cubs’ record Monday afternoon on its website to reflect seven shutouts.
By policy, the LHSAA does not discuss sanctions or release information about sanctions to the media.
U-High football coach/athletic director Andy Martin was not available for comment when The Advocate reached by phone Monday afternoon.
The suspensions leave the Cubs with an 0-9 record heading into a Week 10 matchup with Port Allen. U-High was ranked No. 1 in the LSWA Class 3A poll until last week’s loss to Madison Prep.
One factor in the losses is that fifth-ranked Class 5A Catholic High (8-0, 4-0) will enter Thursday’s District 4-5A playoff with No. 10 Zachary (6-2, 3-1) with an undefeated record . The Cubs handed the Bears their only loss on the field.
