On Monday night, the Megan Duffy era at Virginia Tech began as the former Marquette coach took over for Kenny Brooks, who left for Kentucky following the Hokies’ elimination from the NCAA Tournament last March. With a new look lineup, all eyes were on the season opener against UNC Wilmington at Cassell Coliseum.
If there was a plan for a near-perfect start to the season for Virginia Tech and Duffy, it unfolded this way. The Hokies scored the first 15 points of the game and used stifling defense to pull away in transition to build an early lead over the Seahawks and never looked back in a 99-57 victory.
