Last season, South Carolina established itself as a powerhouse in women’s basketball, finishing with a perfect 38-0 record and winning its second national championship in three years. The Gamecocks now have a chance to win back-to-back titles, and with much of the same talent returning, it’s not an unrealistic goal.
Despite losing star center Camila Cardoso to the WNBA Draft, South Carolina still has a dangerous lineup. Head coach Dawn Staley has brought in another elite recruiting class that includes Gatorade National Girls Basketball Player of the Year Joyce Edwards.
MiLaysia Fulwiley returns after averaging 11.7 points, 2.9 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.7 steals per game in 2023-24. Te-Hina Paopao also returns, giving the Gamecocks a veteran presence in the backcourt .
