Three charged after traffic stop in Wilmington – WWAY NewsChannel 3

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WWAY) — Three people have been charged, including a juvenile, after a traffic stop according to Wilmington police.

According to WPD, last Saturday units stopped a vehicle for a window tint violation in the 200 block of Montgomery Avenue. When one of the passengers was asked to exit the vehicle, he attempted to flee on foot with a gun on his hip. The police later arrested him. The gun contained a modified conversion device.

The driver and front passenger have also been detained while officers search the vehicle. In addition to marijuana, there was also an additional firearm in the vehicle.

Demaryius Simpson, 18, was charged with Possession of a Weapon of Mass Destruction, Carrying a Concealed Handgun, PWIMSD Marijuana, Resisting/Delaying/Obstructing and Possession of Marijuana Paraphernalia. He was given a $50,000 secured bond.

Ishmaeli James II, 22, was charged with CCW handgun, PWIMSD marijuana, felony Maintaining a vehicle for the sale of a controlled substance, possession, possession of marijuana, paraphernalia and a window tint violation. He was given a $10,000 secured bond.

A minor has also been charged in the case.
