COLUMBIA, SC (WJBF)- It was a homecoming night to remember for the South Carolina Gamecocks as they upset the Texas A&M Aggies 44-20. The Gamecocks outscored the Aggies 24-0 in the second half and that sent the fans home happy.
“They made an impact on the game and I’m so happy for our fans because they deserve it and they’re a true twelfth man,” South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer said.
“They hit me harder than some Texas A&M players trying to get off that field, but it’s an amazing feeling for us to finally come together and play some extra football in all three phases,” Joshua Simon said from the tight end.
“We lined up and ran the ball 43 times for 283 yards against that group, kudos to our players as well, and Coach Elko has a great team,” Beamer said.
“I was just trying to tell myself to be patient but hit when I saw the hole, but I feel like I had a great level on the pad. I could have done better under any circumstances,” running back Raheem “Rocket” Sanders said.
“With two evenly matched SEC teams, it all comes down to quarterback play,” Beamer said.
“We got the better quarterback and that wasn’t coach’s word, that’s what I really believe and feel. I said that to the team in training this week and they definitely played like that.”
The Gamecocks then have another challenge ahead of them as they travel to face Vanderbilt. The start is scheduled for 16:15
