BURLINGTON, VT. – For the second straight home meet, the Catamounts won 12 events topping Maine 178-119 on Saturday afternoon at the annual Vermont Military Meet presented by Milton CAT. It was also the annual Spread Respect Meet an America East initiative.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Just like last Saturday, the Catamounts opened the meet with a win in the 200-yard medley relay. Vermont’s combination of Alexis Torikian, Eli Fazio, Hallie Laney and Havana Layton won the event by 2.79 seconds with a time of 1:47.89.
- Laney led the way for the Catamounts with three wins Saturday. She won the 100 Fly (57.78), 200 Fly (2:05.90) and 200 IM (2:09.99) for Vermont. It was the second time this season that Laney swept the 100 and 200 Fly.
- Jackie House won two events Saturday, sweeping the 200 and 500 free. She won the 200 in 3.16 seconds and the 500 in 2.60 seconds.
- Ella Church won the 1000 Free for the Catamounts with a season-best time of 10:40.81.
- For the second year in a row Tanna Proudfoot swept the diving events against the Black Bears. She scored 245.33 points on the triple and 258.75 points on the one meter. Her one-meter mark was her best mark since the 2023 URI Invitational.
- Torykian earned her first individual win of the season in the 100 Back, finishing with a time of 58.78, her second-best time of the year.
- Jocelyn Leger earned his second win of the season with a season-best time of 2:07.43 in the 200 Back.
- Natalie Schlemmer earned his fifth win of the year, taking the 200 breast in a time of 2:24.98. She finished 1.22 seconds ahead of her nearest competition and won the race for the second time this year.
WHO’S NEXT
The Catamounts are back in action in three weeks as they travel to Rhode Island for the 2024 Harold Anderson Invitational at the Tootell Aquatic Center in Kingston. Vermont will aim for a threepeat in the event. The event will run from Thursday, November 21 to Sunday, November 24.

BURLINGTON, Va. – The University of Maine women’s swimming and diving team posted a relay victory and three individual victories in a 178-119 loss at Vermont on Saturday afternoon.
Kennedy Hart paced Maine with a pair of wins in the sprints, taking first in the 50-yard freestyle in 24.08 and the 100-yard freestyle in 52.73.
Laura Dube added Maine’s third win by touching the wall first in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:08.67.
Hart’s Maine team, Mia Poirier, Hannah Deeganand Liz Stoelzel won the 200-yard freestyle relay with a total time of 1:38.70. Charlotte Hoover, Eva Welsh, Isabel Iraniand Hart placed second in the 200-yard medley relay at 1:50.68.
Welsh recorded a trio of runner-up finishes, placing second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:08.90), 200-yard breaststroke (2:26.20) and 200-yard IM (2:10.82).
Hoover came home third in the 100-yard backstroke (1:00.37), 100-yard butterfly (1:01.24) and 200-yard IM (2:14.15).
Nikolyn Harkins took silver in the 200-yard freestyle (1:58.03) and 500-yard freestyle (5:13.18).
On the diving board, Haley Culver placed second in both the 3-meter (234.38) and 1-meter (247.80), while Ashley LeClair recorded a third place showing on 3 meters (208.96) and 1 meter (235.20).
