Revere overtakes Copley; Highland, CVCA, Walsh and Hoban earn big wins in first week of playoffs – Akron Leader Publications

GREATER AKRON — Playoff football began on Nov. 1, with several local teams picking up big wins to advance.

Revere and Copley have never met in the playoffs before, but that changed this year as the two rivals squared off in the first round, with Revere edging Copley to advance. The game was tied at seven after the first quarter and both teams scored touchdowns in the second quarter to tie the game at 14. Revere found the end zone again just before halftime to regain the lead 21-14. Copley didn’t score in the third quarter, but Rivera extended the lead with another touchdown. Despite two touchdowns by Copley in the fourth quarter, it wasn’t enough. Revere’s Luke Farris threw for two touchdowns in the game.

Highland 52Fremont Ross 7

It was all Highland in the game against Fremont Ross as Highland won its 11th straight game. Highland held Ross scoreless in the second half of the game. The Hornets’ Casey Meiser had five touchdowns in the game — three rushing and two receiving.

CVCA 45School 14

Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy (CVCA) jumped out to a 23-7 halftime lead and held University School to just seven points in the second half. CVCA rushed for 290 yards in the game while Charlie Levack was 7-of-9 passing for 102 yards, ran for a touchdown and threw a touchdown pass.

Walsh Jesuit 42Willoughby South 0

Walsh Jesuit dominates Willoughby South to win its 11th straight game. Walsh’s Keller Moten was 11 of 17 passing for 76 yards. He also rushed for 35 yards and a touchdown on six carries.

Hoban controlled the entire game, with Firestone’s only points coming in the fourth quarter. Hoban’s Brayton Feaster had three touchdown runs in the game.

It was all Perry as Buchtel struggled to stop Perry’s rushing game and find the end zone in the first-round playoff loss.

Norton fell behind early, trailing 35-7 at halftime and couldn’t overcome the deficit in the second half as the season wound down.

Green quarterback Tyson Hunka threw for three touchdowns and also had a touchdown in the Bulldogs’ playoff win over Riverside. Evan Reed rushed for 67 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries for Green.

Manchester 49Freedom 14

Manchester dominated Liberty as quarterback Yadin Sharp was 8 of 16 passing for 78 yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed for 95 yards and a touchdown in the game.
