Two people were injured when gunfire erupted in Baton Rouge during a police chase after an officer attempted a traffic stop, Louisiana State Police said.

State police are still investigating who shot whom and what prompted the Louisiana Department of Public Safety officer to shoot, a spokesman said.

The shooting happened around 8:30 p.m. on Brownlee Street, state police said in a news release.

Two people were injured and transported to hospital. No officers were injured in the incident, state police said.

“Investigators are working to process the scene and gather additional information,” state police said.

The Louisiana State Police Crime Lab assisted in processing the scene.

Anyone with information and/or photos and video is asked to share that information anonymously with state police detectives through the Louisiana State Police online reporting system at lsp.org and by clicking on “report suspicious or criminal activity” or call the State Police Fusion Center Hotline at 1-800-434-8007.

This is a developing story.
