The leaves are still on the trees and the air is still warm, but Fremont Adventure Recreation is ready for the annual frosty Resolution Run on January 1st of the new year!
This tradition, which started in 2020, has run the gamut of weather from T-shirts and 70 degrees to plummeting -5 degrees and snow on the ground. Regardless of the weather, 150 brave runners and walkers gather for the annual event to celebrate a healthy start to the new year. The race is on – snow or shine!
This year’s event will be at Pueblo Community College’s Fremont County campus and will head to Tunnel Drive, where 5K and 10K runners will pass through the historic water supply tunnels. The 10K runners will then continue to the end of the former scenic route, where they will follow the Arkansas River and enjoy beautiful scenery. Both courses are out and back and have aid stations manned by volunteers wearing puffy coats.
“We love this event,” said FAR Director Brian Van Eoorden, “because it’s not just about making a resolution, it’s about making a commitment to start the year in a healthy way—with others who love to be outside and active.”
Cocoa and snacks are provided at the end of the course. A free toddler race around the historic walk (about half a mile) is at 10:30am
“It’s really an all-ages event,” Van Ywarden said. “There’s a distance for everyone – just dress warmly and watch the weather.”
Economy entry is just $15 per person and includes race entry, goody bag and aid stations. To add a long sleeve t-shirt or hat to registration for an additional fee, participants must do so by December 10th. Children are $5 per economy entry. Register online before December 27th and in person at packet pickup from 3-5:30pm on December 31st at Handlebar in Cañon City or on race day from 8:30am-9:15am. The race starts at 9:30am and the course closes (because it’s cold!) at 11:15am
