LUBBOCK, Texas (NEWS RELEASE) – Shelter Services of Lubbock, Texas is excited to announce its 25th anniversary celebration featuring an Open Barn Fall Festival on October 25, 2024 at our facility. Join us as we celebrate a quarter century of providing equine-assisted therapy services to children and adults with special needs and disabilities, at-risk youth, and veterans.
Since its inception in 1999, Refuge Services has been dedicated to serving the whole person – body, mind and spirit. Our mission is to create a therapeutic environment where physical, occupational, speech therapists and licensed mental health professionals can integrate the healing power of horses into their treatment plans. We currently provide hippotherapy, therapeutic riding and equine-assisted psychotherapy to approximately 170 clients and their families each week.
“We are extremely proud of the impact we have made over the past 25 years,” said Patty Mandrell, executive director of Refuge Services. “The connection between our clients and the horses creates profound healing experiences that change lives.”
The Open Barn Fall Festival will feature a variety of activities for all ages, including:
• Guided tours of our facilities
• Opportunities to meet our therapy horses
• Family-friendly interactive games and activities
• Hayride & S’mores
• Food and fellowship
This celebration not only marks our anniversary, but also serves as an opportunity to raise awareness of our programs and the continued need for community support. As a not-for-profit community organization, donations are tax-deductible and essential to our mission.
We invite the community to come together to celebrate this milestone, learn about our services, and support our mission to provide therapeutic opportunities to those in need.
