BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPRUD) — Planning to visit Baton Rouge for Southern University’s home game against the Alcorn State University Braves on Saturday, Oct. 19? Several new restaurants and venues have opened near the university campus.

Guests can grab a quick lunch at the Triplet Blue Store Food Mart or purchase fresh and new Southern University paraphernalia from Top Choice Products.
Don’t forget the homecoming parade! The event has been a tradition for years. The route goes through the community of Scotlandville at 8 a.m., passes the South University Bypass and ends at Scotlandville High School.

Tony’s Seafood
Looking for a stove before you get to campus? Or looking for seafood to cook up for a tailgate? Check out Tony’s Seafood on Plank Road. The seafood market also offers party platters with a choice of catfish, prawns, crab and boudin balls that can feed up to 12 people.
Blue shop
Triplet’s Food Mart or Blue Store on Mills Road is recognized as a staple for Southern students, past and present. Blue Store is a popular chicken chain located in Baton Rouge. The store, located on Mills Road, is the original Triplet’s Food Mart. It started as a convenience store but later added chicken. Guests can purchase chicken wings in bulk or in small portions.
Empire Wingz
A true Southern fan knows that going to Empire Wingz after a football game is almost a must. The wing restaurant is popular for its BBQ Ranch fries. They offer a variety of flavors for traditional and boneless wings, including BBQ, Cajun, Lemon Pepper, Spicy Garlic Parmesan, and Sweet Heat. Empire Wingz can be found at 8032 Scenic Highway.

Sunshine’s Place
Sunshine’s Place is a newer restaurant near Southern University. This seafood restaurant on Scenic Highway offers crab, turkey necks, neck bones, shrimp and halibut. The restaurant opened its physical location in 2021.
