The Volunteer Center of Reno County is the central clearinghouse for volunteer opportunities in Reno County. Regional nonprofits and government organizations have submitted the following requests for assistance. BUILDER’S WORKS — Volunteers are needed to help as cashiers, test appliances and electrical equipment, be floor clerks, receive donations and sort them. Volunteers must be 18 years of age or older. Volunteers needed from 9am to 1pm on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

HUTCHINSON PUBLIC LIBRARY MAKERSPACE looking for volunteer creative writing assistants. Volunteers will engage with patrons coming to the Makerspace, help with the day’s activity, read the patron’s work and give their input and point out grammar mistakes like grammar etc. if the patron asks for help with that. Writing, editing or teaching experience preferred but not required. Volunteers must also be patient when working with people with mental and/or physical disabilities. Volunteers needed from 3 to 5 p.m. two Fridays a month.

PLUM CREEK ELEMENTARY PRE-K teaching assistants are needed from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. on weekdays during the school year. Volunteers will help at lunchtime by opening milk, scraping trays, answering questions and then help supervise the break after lunch. Volunteers must be patient, able to work with energetic children with a positive attitude, must be 16 years of age and have a completed background check.

RENO COUNTY MUSEUM is looking for volunteers to help with their mystery dinner theater fundraiser on November 16th. Volunteers will help set up the event from 3-5pm or deliver food to tables as waiters, provide drinks and help clean up after the event from 4:30-11pm. Volunteers can dress up or in the theme of the event (1920’s prohibition era) or may wear all black if assistance during the event.

SALVATION ARMY will need volunteers to help prepare for their coat drive from 1:00pm on November 5th and from 9:00am and 1:00pm on November 6th. Volunteers will help sort donated coats, hang them up by size, sort/display gloves, hats, blankets and scarves. Volunteers will be on their feet and moving. Volunteers are also needed to distribute coats from 9:45am to noon and 1 to 3pm on November 8th and from 8:45am to November 9th. Volunteers will escort families to pick out coats, hats, gloves, scarves and blankets.

FRIENDLY FOODS is looking for a few volunteer drivers to deliver meals to homebound people. These volunteers will only drive; another volunteer carries the food to the doors. A valid driver’s license and a good driving record are required for this position.
