Georgia Brougham is a player you should never bet against.
The 28-year-old produced an unforgettable performance on Saturday [2 November]anchoring Jocelyn Presser’s London City Lionesses defense to a second straight clean sheet and scoring the only goal of the afternoon to beat Sheffield United at Bramall Lane.
After the match, Brougham spoke on the pitch with WSL Full-Time’s Dan Pentland.
It’s her every word.
Congratulations, you’ve scored the match winner – you must be really pleased?
Yes, we’re buzzing with the three points. They made it really difficult for us, but I’m happy to get the goal and the win for the team.
Take us through the goal. Chantel [Boye-Hlorkah] you had a similar chance minutes before, did you think about it before delivery?
I had a conversation with Chaney and told her I was going to release the front post. Hair [Asllani] I scored a great ball, it fell to me and yes it ended up in the net.
How difficult is it to come here to play against a team like Sheffield United?
Every game is tough and that’s the beauty of this league. You can’t underestimate the bottom teams because anyone can beat anyone on their day. We just had to be patient, play our game and it worked out in the end.
With Birmingham City up next, how will the team stay level as it looks like a late-season meeting between two of the top teams could be in the offing?
It’s massive, as you say. It’s early in the season and nothing will change for us – we will prepare as always, go into the game and play our way. Nothing will change. It’s early and the result won’t define the season. Obviously we are at home and we will want to perform well and get the win for the fans.
