Birmingham City 2-0 Bolton Wanderers – BBC

It was a stunning start for the home side as Bolton failed to clear their lines and Iwata found the bottom left corner with a superb left-footed volley.

The Blues dominated the rest of the first half with their slick passing but only had one accurate strike from Alfie May to show for it.

They had to wait until the 55th minute for their next big chance when Ethan Laird’s recalled header from Iwata’s cross had to be turned away for a corner by Bolton goalkeeper Luke Southwood, who then also saved from close range from the goalscorer May.

But with only such a slim lead, Bolton always remained a potential threat on the break – and they almost shocked their hosts when substitute John McAtee was left clear in the box and fired low with his right foot.

But alert Blues keeper Ryan Alsop saved with his feet – and six minutes later it was 2-0.

Keshi Anderson went down under a desperate challenge from Will Forrester on the line – and Stansfield slotted a low right-footed penalty into the middle to deny Southwood a chance and secure all three points.
