Reports of flooding and damage in the Wilmington area from Tropical Storm Debbie – AOL

As the wind and rain bands of Tropical Storm Debbie continued to batter the Wilmington area Thursday, some flooding and other damage was reported.

The iconic Johnny Mercers Fisherman’s Wharf sign at Wrightsville Pier was torn down by the storm, leaving broken pieces scattered on the ground.

Shallot River

Around 8 a.m. Thursday, the Shallotte Police Department reported some flooding along the Shallotte River. “Our city staff continues to monitor and assist when needed,” the department said on Facebook. See more photos here.

A car ran off a flooded road in New Hanover County Wednesday night.

A car ran off a flooded road in New Hanover County Wednesday night.

Around 9:00 pm Wednesday, New Hanover County rescue crews responded to a submerged vehicle on North College Road near Business Drive. The driver was able to get out of the car and save himself, the department said.

Pender County

Around 7:30 a.m., the Pender County Fire Department reported on Facebook that there were several flooded roads and downed trees throughout the county. They urged residents not to walk on the roads.
