Heavy police presence on Bawell Street Sunday night – WBRZ

BATON ROUGE – Two people were shot by law enforcement at the end of a police chase that went from Chippewa Street to Balis Drive Sunday night.

State police said Capitol Department of Public Safety officers attempted to pull over a white suburban Chippewa near Daisy Avenue after a traffic violation.

LSP said the car led officers on a pursuit on Interstate 110 to Interstate 10 and left College Drive, where the vehicle turned into the neighborhood of Bawell Street. State police said the vehicle overturned between Brownlee and Barber streets.

State police said that of the three people in the car, two were shot by officers. Their conditions are unknown. One person was handcuffed and taken into custody.

The LSP is investigating why the officers fired their weapons.

No further information was immediately available.
