Cajon Pass, California (November 3, 2024) – A serious traffic accident occurred Friday evening that left five people injured when two vehicles collided and caught fire on Interstate 138. The accident happened around 9:00 pm on the sharp turn between Interstate 15 and Summit Valley Road. as reported by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) and the San Bernardino County Fire Department.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the crash involved a Ford pickup truck, possibly a Maverick or Ranger, and an unknown sedan. Both vehicles sustained extensive front-end damage and were engulfed in flames when emergency crews arrived. Thanks to the quick actions of Good Samaritans, all occupants were extricated from the burning vehicles before emergency crews arrived.
Emergency services requested at least five ambulances and a Mercy Air helicopter to help with the situation. However, the medical helicopter was later canceled for reasons that have not yet been disclosed. A total of five people were transported by ground ambulance to a nearby trauma hospital where they were treated for life-threatening injuries.
The CHP is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash and additional updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
