TEMPE, Ariz. — One person is dead and another is seriously injured after a head-on crash early Sunday morning on the 202 in Tempe.
The Arizona Department of Public Safety said three vehicles were involved in the series of crashes that happened around 3 a.m. in the westbound lanes of the highway near Scottsdale Road.
The first crash involved a white passenger car rear-ending a gray Honda SUV.
As the cars were still in the traffic lanes, a gray Audi car hit the Honda.
A gray Ford car then struck an Audi, a Honda and two people involved in the first two crashes who were outside their vehicles.
DPS says the third crash in the series killed one person and left another seriously injured.
The victims have not yet been identified.
It is not yet clear if anyone will be charged in connection with the crashes.
The crash investigation is ongoing.
