BIRMINGHAM, Alabama – The Birmingham Police Department has announced that they have arrested and charged a suspect in the murder of 20-year-old Paul Devarid Terry, Jr.
Terry was shot and killed after a verbal altercation on Friday, Oct. 11, near East Lake Park.
The suspect has been identified as Anthony Rudolpho Major, 27, of Birmingham.
According to BPD Sgt. LaQuitta Wade, officers responded to a call about a person shot near the 8200 block of 4th Avenue North on October 11 at approximately 12:19 p.m.
When officers arrived at the scene, they were advised that Terry had run to a nearby shed where he was later found lying unresponsive.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service personnel attended the scene and pronounced him dead.
“The preliminary investigation suggests the victim came to a residence in the 8200 block of 4th Avenue North,” Wade said.
“While inside the residence, a verbal exchange ensued between the victim and the suspect, possibly outside the residence. During the verbal dispute, the suspect shot the victim. The victim fled the scene to the 300 block of North 83rd Street, where he collapsed into the shed.
Major is being held in the Jefferson County Jail without bond.
