Everything We Know About 28 Years Later – Loud and Clear Reviews

Danny Boyle’s long-awaited zombie sequel 28 Years Later is one of the most anticipated films of 2025. Here’s everything we know about the new installment.

28 years later is one of the most anticipated movies of 2025and I’m going to go right ahead and declare it one of the best and most exciting of the year. And why not be? For starters, it will take us back to the gloriously terrifying post-apocalyptic a world that director Danny Boyle and screenwriter Alex Garland so eloquently (and terrifyingly) created in 28 days later (2002). It will also mark a huge moment that we Fast Zombie fans have been waiting for over 20 years: Boyle and Garland reuniting in the long-awaited sequel to the film that popularized the Fast Zombie craze of the 21stSt century. Although both were somewhat related to 2007 28 weeks later— part, not a sequel, the director and writer stepped back from their traditional roles and instead served as executive producers. Now they are back together at the helm, leading us much more than just a long-awaited sequel. Here’s everything we know about 28 years later.

What is the plot of 28 years later?

Details and photos from the set have recently surfaced suggesting this 28 years later it will be takes place in Britain 28 years into this terrible insatiable plague of the rabies virus. Many were hoping for a story focused on the continuation of the life of Jim, our main character in the 28 days later, but this new installment takes a different approach and will instead follow a young boy looking for a doctor to help his dying mother. Both Boyle and Garland described it as a British coming-of-age zombie film – which, come to think of it, is 28 days later it was in more ways than one.

On his mission, the boy leads his mother through beautiful English countryside, but of course it is littered with The infectedthat hide in the woods, hills and forests. Without a doubt, these moments will make your hair stand on end and your heart skip a beat. But the boy eventually finds doctoralthough it looks very weird and strange. Is this doctor a force for good, or is something more sinister lurking beneath the surface?

During an appearance on the ReelBlend podcast, Garland explained that the film will also explore the finer points of landscape, people and nature: “It has to do with the passage of time and thinking about what effect the passage of time would have. … Is this what you would traditionally call a post-apocalyptic state? Or has something else started to manifest? Time is really at the heart of the engine of the film.”

While this synopsis suggests that most of the film will take place in the UK, recently released photos from the set showing a NATO soldier suggest that the nation was unable to restore order on its ownwhich, if you recall, reflects a key storyline in the 28 weeks later. While the end of 28 days later gave an optimistic conclusion, suggesting that the infected are gone, the virus has returned 28 weeks laterin which controlled civilization crumbles, London returns to chaos, and the virus spreads through Paris on its way to all of Europe. The questions now become: are there more asymptomatic hosts than we have seen? weeks and has the virus mutated? And if so, how?

Not only will Cillian Murphy reprized his role as Jim, but Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ralph Fiennes and Erin Kellyman (Willow) will also participate. It is also rumored that Jack O’Connell (Unbroken) will star, but word is mum on his role. there is he’s supposed to be a “key mystery character” whose arc will expand and play out in a trilogy, so maybe that’s him.

I’m sorry Keely. what? A trilogy?

Yes, you heard me… and we’ll get to that in a second.

Back to Jody Comer: After her star and Emmy-winning role Killing Eve she stayed busy starring in movies like A free man (2021) vs. Ryan Reynolds, at Ridley Scott The last duel (2021), and recently in The cyclists (2023) with Tom Hardy and Austin Butler.
