Here’s what FSU women’s basketball coach Brooke Wyckoff had to say about this season, the new additions and Ta’Nia Latson
Florida State women’s basketball opens its 2024-25 season Monday at 11 a.m. against the University of North Florida.
The No. 19 Seminoles are coming off a 23-11 season and another NCAA Tournament appearance.
FSU hopes to make another game in March, and the first step toward that goal is opening the season at the Donald L. Tucker Center.
Seminoles head coach Brooke Wyckoff is entering her third season leading the program and she has coached at FSU since 2011. She previously played four seasons for the Seminoles from 1997-2001.
FSU women’s basketball top threes: What you need to know before the tip
FSU returns eight players from last season’s team. Sydney Bowles, Moreila Chavez, Ryan Diaz Dos Santos and Malea Williams are new additions to the FSU roster.
The Seminoles averaged 78.5 points per game last season while shooting just over 40 percent from the field and 31 percent from three.
Junior guard Ta’Nia Latson and senior forward Makayla Timpson were named to the ACC preseason teams.
Latson averaged 21.4 points per game last season while adding 4.2 assists and 4.2 rebounds per game. She was named to the All-ACC First Team and earned AP All-American Honorable Mentions for her performance last season.
Timpson set the single-season record for rebounds, blocks and double-doubles last season, earning All-ACC First Team and All-ACC First Team Defense honors. She averaged a career-best 14.3 points per game while adding 10 rebounds per game.
The Seminoles are a perfect 9-0 against the Osprey all-time, winning the last game 78-50 in 2021. UNF enters the game on the back of a 9-21 season, ending the year on a two-game losing streak.
UNF averaged 63.5 points per game last year. The Osprey’s leading scorer is senior guard Kayla Ruger. She averaged 11.3 points per game in the 2023-24 season, adding four rebounds per game.
Her best game came in a double overtime win over Kennesaw State. She had 23 points, four rebounds, six assists and two steals in the win.
