Dr. William Albert Evanko, 80, died on October 17, 2024 in Bradenton, Florida. Born May 14, 1944 to Eleanor Marcinko Evanko and Albert Evanko, Bill devoted his life to his family and his profession as an oral and maxillofacial surgeon, practicing for 35 years in Medina, Strongsville and Wadswater, Ohio.
Loving husband of Valarie Maxine Evanko, Bill was also the proud father of seven children: Allison Evanko of Virginia Beach, VA, Jack Evanko of Napa, CA, Eric Evanko of Medina, OH, Lauren Richardson of Arlington Heights, Ill., Germaine Whitney of Lake Zurich, IL, Dr. Jeffrey Evanko of Akron, Ohio, and Mark Evanko of Washington, D.C. He is survived by his brother, Rob Evanko of Indian Wells, CA. William was preceded in death by his parents, Eleanor and Albert Evanko.
Bill began his education at Lakewood High School before earning degrees from The Ohio State University and Case Western School of Dentistry. He completed his maxillofacial residency at Washington National Hospital in Washington, DC. During his career, Bill received the 2001 Humanitarian Award from the Ohio Dental Association for his two medical mission trips to the Philippines, where he performed hundreds of surgeries for local residents.
Bill was a proud veteran of the US Navy, serving his country with honor and distinction from 1972 to 1978. He was also a 33rd degree Mason in the Cleveland Valley. His spiritual home was Longboat Island Chapel, where he was an active member. His hobbies included boating and golf, which he enjoyed immensely throughout his life.
His ashes will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery. A celebration of life will be held on January 25, 2025 in Bradenton, Florida.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Longboat Island Chapel, 6200 Gulf of Mexico Dr., Longboat Key, FL 34228 in his name. The chapel has suffered incredible damage due to recent hurricanes.
