The SEC fines South Carolina for violating the league’s concourse access policy after Gamecocks fans stormed the field to celebrate an upset win against Texas A&M in Week 10. It’s South Carolina’s second violation of 2024. the university will have to pay $250,000.
South Carolina registered its first violation in January when fans took the court after a win against Kentucky in men’s basketball.
Fans immediately jumped over the wall between the bleachers at Williams-Brice Stadium and onto the field after the Gamecocks bowed out with a 44-20 win against No. 10-ranked Texas A&M entering Saturday’s slate. The Aggies were the last remaining undefeated team in SEC play, but are now 5-1.
Meanwhile, South Carolina improved to 5-3 with a 3-3 record in SEC play.
Saturday’s result also gave South Carolina coach Shane Beamer his third win against an AP top 10 opponent, moving him to second in program history. The Gamecocks defeated Tennessee and Clemson in back-to-back weeks to close out the 2022 season, knocking both teams out of the College Football Playoff race.
South Carolina will have a chance for another ranked win in Week 11, but it will have to do so on the road against No. 24 Vanderbilt.
