We are in the third year of the Brent Pry era in Virginia Tech football. College football is a results business, and right now Virginia Tech and its fan base aren’t particularly enamored with results.
The latest example is Virginia Tech blowing a 21-3 third quarter advantage on a sleepy Syracuse team. Listen for excuses. See the explanations. “We didn’t have our two best players. We had a backup QB, a running back by committee”. Sounds like the same excuses offered under the Justin Fuente regime. This is always a reason the Hokies fall short of securing the win.
When the season started, who knew we’d be saying, “Virginia Tech is a .500 football team with one of the best returning rosters in all of college football.” We’re nine games in and they’re one game over .500 with Clemson coming in Blacksburg next weekend.
This was supposed to be a turning point in Virginia Tech football. This was to be an upcoming year. To take you behind the curtain, I’m starting to look at possible bowl games this time of year. Now I’m looking at what teams will visit me locally.
Pray has done some great things that help build a program. We need wins. We need a landmark victory. So far, the Hokies have failed to reach both levels. When does the tide turn? Check out the 2025 recruiting rankings. Tell me things are going to get better. This was the year Virginia Tech was supposed to “come back.”
The Hokies are so far from being “back,” I considered pulling my NIL contribution. The players have worked their tails off and I can see the effort. The problem is, the results speak for themselves.
