The Cobra Robotics program won the Arizona Robotics League Championship at Cactus High School in Glendale on October 18-19.
This is the third year in a row Cactus Robotics has won this competition against some of the best teams in Arizona. The team is led by Adam Shroyer, a Culinary Arts teacher at Cactus who has supported the robotics team for many years.
This weekend’s competition was the culmination of five qualifiers where teams earned points to determine the final standings for the championship event. Cactus Robotics entered the event in sixth place and eventually took home the win after going 2-0 in the finals.
The Cactus Robotics team consists of 26 students from across the district. The team includes 20 boys, 6 girls and consists of four seniors and 22 juniors.
The students worked over the summer and fall to prepare for these competitions, and the entire robot was designed, manufactured and programmed by the students with the help of industry mentors.
Cactus Robotics recently won the Arizona State Robotics Championship earlier this month. Next up for the Cobras is the Beach Blitz Invitational in Capistrano Valley, California, where they will face 42 teams from across the country.
