Gibsonburg man killed in two-vehicle crash – AOL

SANDUSKY COUNTY – The Fremont Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a two-vehicle fatal crash that occurred on US 6 just east of mile post 11 in Washington Township.

A person from Gibsonburg died at the scene, according to a media release.

At approximately 12:48 a.m. Thursday, a 2001 Jeep Cherokee SUV driven by Daniel S. Niezgoda, 38, of Gibsonburg, was eastbound on US 6. A 2014 Isuzu NPR-HD driven by Lowayne E. Etzler, 61, Sandusky, was traveling westbound on US 6.

At the scene, investigators learned that Niezgoda’s vehicle veered to the left and struck Etzler’s vehicle head-on. Niezgoda’s SUV went off the south side of the roadway and into a ditch before coming to a complete stop.

The Etzler vehicle went off the north side of the roadway and overturned on its side.

Etzler transported to St. Vincent

Etzler was rushed to St. Vincent Hospital in Toledo with non-life threatening injuries. Etzler was not listed at the hospital Wednesday.

Niezgoda died on the spot.

The Ohio State Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Sandusky County Sheriff’s Office, Sandusky County Coroner’s Office, Helena Fire Department, Bollville Fire Department, Sandusky County Rescue Squad and Pat and Son Towing.

The crash investigation is ongoing. US 6 was closed for nearly 4 hours before all travel lanes were reopened.
