Cheyenne, Wyoming – Southeast Wyoming faces significant winter weather this Sunday, with the National Weather Service (NWS) issuing a winter weather advisory for the Snowy and Sierra Madre mountain ranges and the I-80 summit between Cheyenne and Laramie. Snow accumulations could reach 10 inches in the higher elevations, while the I-80 summit could see 3 to 5 inches. Winds are expected to be between 20 and 25 mph, which will cause blowing snow and poor visibility on the roads.
According to the NWS, the warning is in effect from 12 a.m. Sunday until 6 p.m. Monday, affecting both travelers and local residents. Drivers on I-80 should be aware of slick conditions and reduced visibility, especially in sections with higher elevation. Those planning to travel through the area are advised to slow down travel if possible and monitor local real-time updates on road conditions.
Sunday’s forecast includes a 30 percent chance of rain and snow early in the day, changing to snow by evening as temperatures drop, with lows around 26 degrees Fahrenheit. Conditions are likely to be blustery overnight, with gusts up to 35 mph expected, making travel challenging.
For the rest of the week, temperatures will range from the high 40s on Tuesday to near freezing on Wednesday, with more snow likely by midweek. Cool conditions will linger through Monday and Tuesday, followed by a sharp drop in temperatures reaching the single digits Thursday evening.
