The California Highway Patrol and the San Bernardino County Fire Department say the crash happened around 9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1, 2024, on Interstate 138 at the sharp turn between Interstate 15 and Summit Valley Road. The CHP traffic log said it was a two-vehicle crash.
When emergency crews arrived at the scene, they found a Ford pickup truck, possibly a Maverick or Ranger, and an unknown sedan with heavy front end damage and on fire. With the help of good Samaritans, they were able to get everyone out of the burning vehicles
Rescue teams requested at least five ambulances and a Mercy Air helicopter to the scene. The medical helicopter was canceled for an unknown reason. A total of five people were transported by ground ambulances to a nearby trauma center with life-threatening conditions.
We will update this story with more information when the preliminary CHP report is available. Additional details were limited at this time. This incident will be investigated by the California Highway Patrol, Internal Affairs.
