LAREDO, Texas (KGNS) – A man wanted for a threat that sent all Laredo schools into “secure mode” has been taken into custody. The suspect, 41-year-old Juan Carlos Moreno, was found at a home in the 3300 block of Lexington around 10:30 a.m., according to the Laredo Police Department.
“This person has had various episodes in the past, there’s a component here that we can’t get into because of HIPPA protections, basically there’s a mental incapacity,” Baeza said.
Baeza said Moreno was found based on where he left the threat. He described the threat as very general and very vague. Police earlier warned the public not to approach Moreno, calling him a “dangerous man” and asked anyone with information to contact them.
Police alerted all public, private, charter and other places with children about Moreno and the situation.
Both the Laredo Independent School District (LISD) and the Unified Independent School District (UISD) have confirmed that all schools have been removed from “secure mode.”
The investigation is ongoing as police work to uncover more information about the incident.
