It’s not quite “Bolden,” the Wilmington move that took 12 years, but it’s getting there.
According to multiple published entertainment industry reports, “The Exorcism,” a movie shot in Wilmington in 2019 under the name “The Georgetown Project,” will finally be released in theaters on June 7.
According to Deadline and other publications, the rights to the film have been purchased by the Miramax film studio from Vertical, an independent film producer.
Directed by Joshua John Miller, “The Exorcism” is about an actor played by Crowe making a movie similar to the horror classic “The Exoricist.” When the actor starts acting strange, it’s unclear if he’s succumbing to past addictions or if something more sinister is at hand.
Interestingly, Crowe played a priest in the horror film The Exorcism of the Pope, which came out last year.
One of the original producers of “The Exorcism” was Kevin Williamson, creator of both “Dawson’s Creek,” the teen drama series filmed here in the late 1990s and early 2000s, and the horror franchise “Scream.” the fifth part of which filmed in Wilmington in 2020.
“It’s like coming home,” Williamson told StarNews at an event announcing “The Exorcism” at EUE/Screen Gems Studios, now Cinespace Studios, in 2019.
