The big question surrounding No. 10 Texas A&M after its big upset of LSU last week was who would take snaps under center going forward.
Connor Weigman was pulled from the game as the Aggies trailed and Marcell Reed sparked the offense to a big win.
Coach Mike Elko has not made a decision on whether to move forward with Reed at quarterback before Saturday night’s game against South Carolina.
But Reed gets the starting nod against the Gamecocks, according to the ABC broadcast.
Reid was seen warming up South Carolina’s first team before becoming the first quarterback to take part in the game.
It’s no big surprise that Reed has usurped Wiegman for the lead role, at least for now.
He is 3-0 as the starting quarterback and led the comeback win over the Tigers last weekend.
The redshirt sophomore also brings another dimension to the Aggies’ offense, especially his ability to tackle.
Reed leads both quarterbacks in passing touchdowns, rushing yards, rushing touchdowns and has yet to throw a pick this season.
Name | Passing yards | Passing TD | % complete | Interceptions | Rushing yards | Rushing TDs |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Connor Weigman | 782 | 3 | 56.9 | 4 | 98 | 0 |
Marcel Reed | 655 | 6 | 55.6 | 0 | 288 | 5 |
There is still plenty of room for growth from Reed as he gets more playing time at A&M. He’s not the most consistent passer, but his athleticism and vision are already reaching an elite level.
The Aggies are favorites to win the game against South Carolina. A&M enters as the only remaining undefeated team in SEC play.
