SIOUX FALLS, SD (Dakota News Now) – With Election Day three days away, thousands in South Dakota have already voted early.

One of the most hotly debated topics this election cycle was Amendment G, an abortion rights initiative.

Two pro- and anti-Amendment G protests were held Saturday to try to sway undecided voters on the issue.

The Life Defense Fund, an organization opposed to the amendment, held a “Get Out and Vote” rally in the morning.

They partnered with the South Dakota Federation of Republican Women and Republicans for the event.

The rally began at 11:00 a.m., with participants going door-to-door to talk to residents about Amendment G.

“Parents’ rights to know if their minor daughter is having an abortion will be repealed by Amendment G, even basic protections for the health and safety of women undergoing abortions are repealed and repealed by Amendment G,” said the state representative Dell Rapids and Life Defense Fund Co-Chair John Hansen. “The more people know how extreme Amendment G really is, the more they reject it. So we’re just sharing that with the voters of South Dakota.

In the afternoon, the group that sponsored Amendment G, Dakotans for Health, along with the group Mothers and Daughters for Freedom, held their own rally.

The Reproductive Rights March was held in Lyon Park at 2:00 p.m., with the group marching down Minnesota Avenue to the Minnehaha County Courthouse.

The group had hoped to garner additional support for the amendment before residents head to the polls on Tuesday.

“We are crippling doctors with our ban, forcing them to review when they can provide care. They gauge how close to death we have to be before they can step in and save us,” said Freedom Coalition President Nancy Turback Berry. “I wanted people to understand that our current law has a prohibition that is extreme, there is no exception for rape, incest, the health of the mother or a fatal fetal abnormality.”
