UPDATE: Teen arrested after shooting incident in Champaign – AOL

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — Police in Champaign have made an arrest after investigating a shooting incident in North Champaign.

Champaign police said a 17-year-old Champaign teenager fled the scene of the shooting on foot to a nearby home. Champaign police served a search warrant at the residence and the teenager was arrested on initial charges of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.

He remains in custody at the Champaign County Juvenile Detention Center.

Despite the arrest, the investigation continues. Officers continue to search the area for witnesses and video footage that may assist the investigation.

Any resident/business in the immediate area with outdoor surveillance camera systems is encouraged to notify CPD. Future updates may be provided as they become available.

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — Booker T. Washington Academy went on a brief soft lockdown Wednesday after shots were fired about a half-mile from the school.

According to Stacey Moore, chief communications officer for Unit 4 School District, the school has gone into a soft lockdown due to police activity in the area.

According to the Champaign Police Department, officers were dispatched to Fourth Street and Nelson Court just before noon for reports of a shooting.

Moore said the Champaign Police Department has since given Booker T. Washington the “all clear” and school can resume as usual.


CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — Officers with the Champaign Police Department responded to reports of a shooting shortly before noon Wednesday.

According to CPD, officers were dispatched to Fourth Street and Nelson Court at 11:51 a.m. They found evidence of gunfire, including shell casings, and damage to a nearby home and vehicle.

There are currently no reports of casualties from the incident. Champaign police are still in the area processing evidence and locating potential witnesses.

The Champaign Police Department said this is an ongoing investigation. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call Champaign police at 217-351-4545 or Crime Stoppers at 217-373-TIPS (8477).
