Glad you won the game? of course You know it could have been better and there is more work to be done? Definitely.

Dowell Loggains was pleased with South Carolina’s 35-9 win over Oklahoma heading into the team’s second bye week of the season. How could it not be? It would be crazy to be indifferent to a huge win on the road. But while he was certainly happy, he wasn’t entirely happy nor satisfied with the team’s performance, especially on offense.

“It became a game that went sour very quickly,” the second-year offensive coordinator said. “You get frustrated because you feel like you lose your edge a little bit when you look out there and it’s 21-0 in the first quarter. I was fine with the way we played in the first half. But I wasn’t happy with the way we played in the second half.”

Within the first six minutes of that game, the Gamecocks already had a three-score lead, thanks in part to two defensive touchdowns. This allowed South Carolina to not play its best hand. He could take his best shots and still find a way to win, which of course he did.

In some ways, it can be seen as a benefit to not have to worry about playing a great offensive game. South Carolina mustered just 254 yards of total offense on the day. But what bothers Loggains is that the Gamecocks didn’t do more in the game when they had some chances.

“I thought we lost our edge a little bit and lost a little bit of intensity to finish that game because it was out of control and wrong early,” he said.

Although he wasn’t completely unhappy with the offensive performance. If anything, he was extremely pleased with the fact that South Carolina didn’t have a single turnover against Oklahoma’s defense. Prior to this game, the forward had turned the ball over 12 times in six games, a number that Loggains certainly wanted to reduce.
