BATON ROUGE — November will be game meat donation month in Louisiana, Gov. Jeff Landry said in a proclamation signed Friday.
The proclamation requires Louisiana hunters to donate some or all of their harvest to families in need before the holiday season as the deer hunting season gets into full swing.
Hunters are asked to donate excess game to local organizations that distribute to the less fortunate, such as Hunters for the Hungry, and non-hunters to consider financially supporting such organizations, the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries said.
“We are calling on the hunting community to join the fight against hunger in Louisiana by donating game meat to organizations that serve those in need,” said LDWF Secretary Madison Sheehan. “We hope this month will serve as a reminder of the important role hunting plays in society and the responsibility we share as a sportsman’s paradise.”
Hunters can drop off their deer or hogs for processing at no cost to the hunter at any processor participating in Hunters for the Hungry. To view the processor network, click here.
