Prep Football: Reno Gets Wild Win; Spanish Springs, North Valleys and Carson advance – Reno Gazette

Reno won a wild game at Douglas as the four-game 5A-North football playoffs began Friday night.

The Huskies outshot the Tigers 42-21 to advance to the semifinals. The Huskies will play at Bishop Manogue at 6pm on Friday. Also in 5A-North Division II on Friday, Spanish Springs topped McQueen 42-14 to set up a quick rematch with Reed. This match starts at 18:15 on Friday and will be televised (Ch 21- KNSN).

In Friday’s 5A-North, Division III games, Carson blanked Hug, 58-0, to face Damonte Ranch next Friday, and North Valleys beat Wooster, 46-22. The Panthers will play No. 1 seed Galena on Friday at 6 p.m.

The Rhyno vs. Douglas match went back and forth all night. Reno junior quarterback Braylon Wilson scored with :19 seconds left, his third rushing TD of the game, to tie the game at 41, then the Huskies converted the extra point.

Spanish Springs had five different players score, including junior Jackson Harris, who scored twice on runs of 17 and 10 yards. Cooper Milligan and Caden Johnson also ran for TDs, and Tyson McNeal connected on a 41-yard pass to Brady Hummel for a score.

In the fourth quarter, backup QB Luca Gerhart found Braden McDonald 40 yards downfield, then McDonald outran McQueen defenders for an 83-yard touchdown to make it 42-7.

Bishop Manogue is the top seed in DII and has a bye to the quarterfinals. Reed is seeded No. 2 and also received a bye.

In 5A-North D-III, Galena is the top seed and Damonte Ranch is No. 2.

The semi-finals are scheduled for 6pm on Friday (November 8). Reno will play at Bishop Manogue on November 8th and the Spanish Springs game will be played at Reed at 6:15pm on November 8th.

The 5A-North regional championships are Nov. 15 for the higher seed. The 5A-II winner earns a berth in the state title game set for Saturday, Nov. 23 at McQueen.

5A-DIII North Valleys plays at Galena at 6pm on Friday (Nov. 8) and Carson plays at Damonte Ranch at 6pm on Friday. The 5A-North Division III championship is Nov. 15 for the higher seed.

The 5A-Division III state championship is at noon Monday, Nov. 25 at Bishop Gorman in Las Vegas.

3A class-North

In the 3A-North semifinals, Elko plays Fallon at 6 p.m. Friday (Nov. 8) and Spring Creek plays Truckee at 1 p.m. Saturday (Nov. 9).

There is no regional title game in Class 3A. The winners of the two semifinal games advance to the state semifinals on Nov. 16, with the 3A state title game set for Tuesday, Nov. 26 at Allegiant Stadium in southern Nevada.
