In Beaumont, Texas, three men were indicted by a Jefferson County grand jury after the shocking murder, which was captured on the victim’s Ring home security camera.

Around 8pm on Thursday, September 26, 2024, a heartbreaking video captured the tragic moment when 39-year-old Ebony Gilbert bravely stepped outside to investigate the commotion, only to be brutally gunned down without warning.

According to CBS affiliate KFDM, police said she was able to return to her home after being shot. Unfortunately, she fainted and died there.

D’Corey Shilow, 21 (top right), Javonta Turner, 21 (top center), and Tydrick Davis, 20 (top left), all face capital murder charges. Shilow is believed to be the shooter responsible for shooting and killing Gilbert, according to investigators. The incident occurred when Gilbert found the three men trying to rob her car in front of her home.

Court documents reviewed by KFDM reveal Shilow admitted to his involvement in her death. In his confession, he implicates Turner and Davis as his partners in crime.

During the investigation, the person stated that he gave Turner the clothes he was wearing on the night in question. This information was later confirmed by the police, who found the clothes in Turner’s residence. Turner was subsequently taken into custody.

According to Davis’ arrest affidavit, he told a witness that he was in the company of Shilow and Turner at the time of Gilbert’s death. It is suspected that Turner may be the second shooter involved in the shooting, as reported by KBMT.

Gilbert’s mother made a chilling discovery the next day when she went to visit her daughter after being unable to contact her. Gilbert revealed to authorities that this was not the first time she had endured such a heartbreaking ordeal. In 2008, she had to face the devastating loss of another daughter who died of a heart attack.

According to KFDM, Shilow’s mother reported him to the police. The news station captured the moment he was escorted from Beaumont police headquarters to the jail.

When the news station reached out to Shilow and asked him if there was anything for Gilbert’s mother, he expressed his condolences, saying, “Miss Ebony, I’m so sorry for your loss.” As he was placed in the police car, he repeated, “ I want to make it clear that I’m not a punk, and I’m not a monster.”

During his interview with the news station, he made it clear that he was not present at the time of the incident and was not involved in it. When it came to the victim’s family, he had nothing to say. However, he had a message for his own family, expressing his apologies for putting them through such suffering, and categorically stating that he would no longer engage in further discussions on the matter.

Shilow set his bond at $750,000, while Davis and Turner set their bonds at $800,000 each. In Turner’s case, the judge also ordered him to wear a GPS monitor, stay in Jefferson County and have no contact with the co-defendants.
