LUBBOCK — The Abilene High football team couldn’t complete a perfect run through District 2-5A Division I Thursday, ending its regular season with a 31-17 loss to Lubbock Monterey on Halloween night at Lowrey Field.
The Eagles, who entered averaging 50.9 points per game, were held to just one touchdown after halftime, allowing the surging Plainsmen to pull away for their fourth straight victory.
Thursday’s result created a three-way tie in the loss column for the district lead between Abilene High (7-3, 5-1), Monterey (5-4, 4-1) and Amarillo High (4-3, 3-1 ) and will likely leave the No. 2 district co-champion Eagles when the playoffs begin in two weeks.
